A Study of Enzyme Immunoassay for the Detection of Antibody to Human T-Lymphotropic virus Type¥²(HTLV-¥²) in Continuous Hemodialysis Patients

Abstract
The Enzyme immunoassay test (Abbott HTLV- iff EIA) is an in vitro qualitative enzyme immunoassay for the detection of antibody to Human T-Lymphotropic virus type DI (HTLV f) in human serum or plasma. The authors performed a prospective evaluation of enzyme immunoassay in an artificial kidney room of Han Yang University hospital in Seoul. One hundred thirty patients were screened for antibodies to human T-lymphotropic virus type III using enzyme immunoassay test (Abbott HTLV-j11 EIA). Four patients were positive in this initial test, but the results of retest showed negative reaction. The authors¢¥ suggestion is that human T-lymphotropic virus is not yet present in patients of hemodialysis and transfusion in Korea.
